Hare’s Ear Nymph – Buggy Mayfly/Caddis Imitation
Hare’s Ear Nymph – Buggy Mayfly/Caddis Imitation
The Hare's Ear Nymph — one of the three most important nymphs in fly fishing alongside the Pheasant Tail and Prince Nymph. The natural hare's ear dubbing creates a rough, buggy body that traps air bubbles and looks alive underwater. It imitates mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, scuds, and general aquatic bugs — making it the most versatile subsurface pattern you can carry.
When to Fish It
Year-round, everywhere. Dead-drift it under an indicator, euro nymph it through runs, drop it below a dry fly, or swing it through soft water. It works in every type of trout water in every season. Sizes 12-16. Start with 14 — the single most versatile nymph size.
