The Hare's Ear Nymph — one of the three most important nymphs in fly fishing alongside the Pheasant Tail and Prince Nymph. The natural hare's ear dubbing creates a rough, buggy body that traps air bubbles and looks alive underwater. It imitates mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, scuds, and general aquatic bugs — making it the most versatile subsurface pattern you can carry.

When to Fish It

Year-round, everywhere. Dead-drift it under an indicator, euro nymph it through runs, drop it below a dry fly, or swing it through soft water. It works in every type of trout water in every season. Sizes 12-16. Start with 14 — the single most versatile nymph size.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly

The Hare's Ear is a desert-island nymph. If you could only have one, it's in the conversation every time. The natural dubbing moves and breathes underwater like nothing synthetic can match. Carry them in sizes 12-16 and you're prepared for the vast majority of trout fishing situations. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
