The most dependable small fly in trout fishing. A slim black thread body, fine silver wire rib, and a bead head imitate the midge pupae trout eat every single day of the year.

When to Fish It

Any month, on any water with midges (which is nearly all of it). Deadliest in winter and early spring on tailwaters when midges are the main course. Drift it deep under an indicator or drop it 18–24 inches behind a heavier nymph on light tippet.
