Sulphur Parachute Dry Fly – Pale Yellow Mayfly for Trout
Sulphur Parachute Dry Fly – Pale Yellow Mayfly for Trout
A pale yellow parachute-style dry fly that imitates Sulphur mayflies — one of the most important hatches of the season on eastern and midwestern trout streams, and increasingly relevant on western waters too. The parachute post makes this fly highly visible in fading light (Sulphurs typically hatch in the evening), and the hackle design lets it sit low in the film for a natural profile that picky trout accept.
Sulphur hatches produce some of the best dry fly fishing of the year. When the bugs start coming off in the evening and trout begin rising in pods, having the right pattern in the right size is everything. This fly nails both the color and the silhouette.
When to Fish It
Late spring through early summer, typically late afternoon and evening. Sulphur hatches tend to start slowly and build to a peak right around dusk. Watch for the pale yellow mayflies on the water and trout rising in rhythmic feeding patterns. Fish this fly drag-free through rising fish on a long leader with 5X or 6X tippet. Size 16 is the standard starting point.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly
Sulphur hatches are a highlight of the dry fly season, and showing up without a proper Sulphur imitation means watching fish rise all evening without hooking up. The parachute design is the best style for this hatch because it's visible in low light and sits in the film naturally. Don't get caught without it. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
