Pat's Rubber Legs is a big, heavy stonefly nymph that gets down deep and catches big fish. The rubber legs pulse and wave in the current, creating movement that no rigid-legged pattern can match. It's the go-to big nymph on western freestone rivers — the fly you fish through deep runs, pocket water, and anywhere big stonefly nymphs live in the rocky substrate.

This is a "big meal" fly. When trout see a large stonefly nymph tumbling through their lane, they often move several feet to eat it because the caloric reward is worth the effort. That's why Pat's Rubber Legs catches disproportionately large fish.

When to Fish It

Year-round, but especially effective in spring and early summer before stonefly hatches. Fish it deep — this fly needs to be bouncing the bottom to be effective. Use it as the heavy anchor fly in a two-nymph rig with a smaller pattern trailing behind. The rubber legs move even in slow current, so it's working for you constantly. Sizes 8-10.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly

Pat's Rubber Legs is the big-fish nymph. The rubber legs are the secret weapon — they move constantly, even in the slowest current, creating a lifelike animation that static patterns can't achieve. If you fish western freestone rivers, this fly should always be in your box. It catches fish that smaller nymphs don't even interest. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
