Copper John Nymph
Copper John Nymph
The Copper John is one of the most popular nymphs in American fly fishing — designed by John Barr as the ultimate fast-sinking attractor nymph. The copper wire body adds weight and flash, the bead head gets it to the bottom fast, and the peacock herl thorax adds the iridescent bugginess that trout find irresistible. It's the nymph that catches fish from coast to coast.
When to Fish It
Year-round, especially in faster water where you need weight to reach the bottom. Fish it as a dropper below a dry fly, as the point fly in a tandem nymph rig, or under an indicator in heavy water. The wire body makes it extremely durable — it'll survive dozens of fish. Sizes 14-18.
