Caddis Larva Nymph
Caddis Larva Nymph
The Caddis Larva imitates the first and longest stage of the caddis lifecycle — the worm-like larva that lives in a case on the bottom of rivers and streams. Trout eat caddis larvae year-round, especially when the larvae get dislodged from their cases by current or during substrate disturbances. This pattern matches those vulnerable, exposed larvae with a realistic segmented body and natural coloring.
Most anglers focus on the adult caddis and the pupa, but the larval stage is available to trout every single day — there's no hatch timing to worry about. It's a consistent, reliable food source that trout eat opportunistically throughout the year.
When to Fish It
Year-round as a subsurface searching pattern. Fish it near the bottom through runs, riffles, and anywhere with rocky substrate where caddis larvae build their cases. Dead-drift it with enough weight to stay near the bottom, and focus on areas where the substrate has been recently disturbed (below rapids, after riffles, etc.). Sizes 14-18.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly
The caddis larva fills a gap in most fly boxes. Everyone carries caddis dries and maybe a pupa, but few anglers carry the larva — which is the stage that's available to trout 365 days a year. Adding this pattern to your rotation gives you coverage of the full caddis lifecycle and an option that produces even when no caddis are visibly hatching. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
