A traditional Blue Dun: soft gray body, dun hackle, upright wings. One of the oldest mayfly patterns in the book and still a quiet killer during dark, drizzly-day hatches.

When to Fish It

Spring and fall, especially overcast afternoons when gray-toned mayflies (BWOs and their cousins) hatch heaviest. Dead-drift it on light tippet to risers in slower pools and glides.
