The Renegade is a fore-and-aft oddity — white hackle up front, brown behind, peacock between — that has filled stringers out West since 1928. Fish it dry, wet, or half-drowned; fish eat it every way.

When to Fish It

All season on freestones and mountain creeks. It's a prospecting fly: cover riffles, pockets, and cutbank seams on light tippet. When it sinks at the end of the drift, let it swing — takes come then too.
