Bead Head Hare’s Ear Flashback Nymph
Bead Head Hare’s Ear Flashback Nymph
The Hare's Ear Flashback takes the classic Hare's Ear nymph — already one of the most effective trout flies ever created — and adds a flashback wing case that catches light underwater and draws attention to the fly. The result is a pattern that's slightly more visible in faster or deeper water without losing any of the buggy, natural profile that makes the Hare's Ear so effective.
The Hare's Ear works because the natural hare's ear fur creates a rough, translucent body that looks alive underwater. Air bubbles get trapped in the fibers, legs and antennae stick out at random angles, and the overall impression is of a living, moving nymph. Adding the flashback wing case gives trout one more reason to eat it.
When to Fish It
Year-round as a general-purpose nymph. The flashback version is especially effective in deeper or faster water where standard patterns can be hard for trout to see. Fish it under an indicator, euro style, as a dropper, or on a swing. Sizes 12-16 cover most situations. It imitates mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, scuds, and general aquatic bugs.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly
The Hare's Ear is one of the top three nymphs in fly fishing history alongside the Pheasant Tail and Prince Nymph. The Flashback version gives it a modern edge without changing what makes it work. If you fish trout, you need Hare's Ears in your box — it's not optional. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
