Foam Grasshopper
Foam Grasshopper
The Foam Grasshopper is a high-floating terrestrial pattern that imitates the grasshoppers that drive trout crazy in late summer. When hoppers start hitting the water along grassy banks, trout respond with some of the most explosive surface strikes in fly fishing. The foam body makes this fly virtually unsinkable — it'll float through multiple fish and rough water without going under.
When to Fish It
Mid-summer through early fall — "hopper season" is typically July through September depending on your location. Fish it tight to grassy banks, along meadow edges, and through any water with adjacent grassland. Slap it down with authority — hoppers don't land gently, and the splash actually attracts fish. Also works as the indicator fly in a hopper-dropper rig. Size 10.

Why Anglers Stock This Fly
Hopper season is the most fun dry fly fishing of the year — big flies, big strikes, big fish. The foam body means you never have to re-apply floatant, and it'll support a heavy nymph dropper without sinking. If you fish in summer anywhere near grass, this fly is essential. Hand-tied with quality materials by tiers with over 30 years of experience.
