A foam beetle with legs and a sighter dot. Beetles fall onto the water constantly all summer, and trout eat them with a distinctive, confident 'clop.' The most underfished terrestrial there is.

When to Fish It

June through September, midday included — beetle eating doesn't wait for a hatch. Fish it tight to banks, under trees, and over cruising fish on light tippet. Twitch it once and let it sit.
