A slender chironomid pupa in the larger sizes lake fish key on. Stillwater trout eat more chironomids than anything else, and a well-presented pupa is the most reliable way to catch them.

When to Fish It

Spring through fall on lakes and ponds, with the strongest emergences in late spring. Hang it under an indicator 1–2 feet off the bottom and let it sit, or retrieve it dead-slow. In rivers, fish it like any midge pupa under an indicator.
